The Dream Home Construction process may not always be a dream experience if not carefully thought out and planned for. You may have waited for years to start building your dream home. You have labored over the designs, cabinets, and floor plans that would work for you.  Now, the time has finally come to start building your home. Now, how do you know what custom home builder to hire?  Here are some things to keep in mind.

Handling the Stress

Once the building process begins the stress may at times be overwhelming. Building homes takes a lot of people working together and many materials are needed as well.  Making sure all those people are doing what you want them to do can be a difficult task.

To help manage the stress that comes with this time you can follow these simple steps.

  1. Be Prepared – Don’t start building your dream home until the design is finished and you even know what the interior design is going to be. Beginning to build your dream custom home before the final plans are finished is a sure-fire way to disaster and a whole lot of stress.  The design team at Coppertree Homes will work with you on every minute detail from beginning to end. This way, you will be guaranteed to get everything you ever wanted and more.
  2. Budget – Have a budget and stick to it. One of the biggest mistakes some people make is not properly planning their budget. Create a thorough list of all your wants and needs and then we will help you list all the costs so you can decide if everything you want is within your budget before construction begins.  We will also consult you on a contingency fund needed.  In most construction projects, things will inevitably come up that were not planned for.  We will do our best to minimize this for you, however, we do recommend having this as a back-up plan.
  3. Get Help – If you are not an experienced contractor then don’t try to act as your own general contractor. It will be worth your money to hire someone else that is trained. Plus the amount of stress a general contractor can relieve is worth its weight in gold! We have an idea of a great company yo can work with – Coppertree Homes! We have been building custom dream homes for our clients for over a decade and will help you achieve your dream on time and within budget.
  4. Relax – Once you choose us to help you build your dream custom built home, then its time to relax and know – we have this.  At times this may seem impossible to do…but finding time to relax during your building project is absolutely essential.  Once your planning and drawings have been approved by you, we will manage every minute detail for you from start to finish. Yes, we want your input, however, you can have the peace of mind knowing that our experienced trades folks are going to WOW you with your vision.

Braving the Elements

One last consideration, especially in Central Ohio, is weather can be another huge stressor when it comes to custom home building projects. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to control the weather or even predict it. Despite the weatherman’s best work.

Even though you can’t predict the weather you can plan ahead for the possibility that bad weather may come. When designing your timeline make sure and leave plenty of cushion for rainy days and other weather-related issues that may arise. Once again, the design team will work with the construction team in advance of the start of your new custom built home.  We will let you know based on when your project is set to start, what types of timeframes you are looking at from the beginning.  This way, you can plan around these timetables.  Maybe you need to sell your current house? This process will give you a fair estimate of the move-in date so you can balance your other financial responsibilities if needed.

Communication is key

Discuss all of your needs with your construction specialist assigned to you so you are well informed.  Ask them about the effects of weather on your custom home building project with their employees and partners.  Ask questions if you are unsure of anything. Discussing the subject openly with us before the building begins will make it easier for us to develop your timeline.   We will never cut corners on materials or time.  Some contractors are very good at predicting real timelines, but many also choose to bid shorter ones to get your work. We will be transparent with you and allow you to feel like every question you could possibly ask has been answered before the building process even begins.  This way, you are a true partner with us in getting you your new custom Dream Home built for you!
